Here is the current list, in no particular order. Feel free to add new suggestions or to cast a vote for an existing idea! Here is my contact information.
- Easier manipulation of the results (copying, etc.)
- Automatically fix links to pages which have moved to a new location
- Printing support
- Handle ftp: URLs
- Allow re-checking invalid links
- Implement a search function
- Better handling of CGI scripts
- Support for fragment identifiers (e.g. my-page.html#here)
- Support for Netscape's client pull
- And a lot more... really!
Please keep in mind that implementing these ideas will take time... You won't find them all in the next release!
Version history
1.0
1.0.1
- Fixed a bug which would prevent all operations (couldn't open Settings - couldn't open any
file).
- Added support for CodeWarrior's text editor.
1.1
- Extended scripting support.
- Integration with URL Manager Pro.
- Link names are displayed in addition to addresses.
- Added support for all HTML 3.2 tags containing URLs, including <BASE HREF>.
- Supports an unlimited number of mappings.
- Added support for file: URLs.
- Open Transport native on 68K (previous versions used MacTCP emulation).
- Checking local links is faster.
- No longer crashes when Auto-Zoom is on and the application is hidden.
1.2
- New networking code should be more robust.
- Files can be fetched directly from a server using Open Location.
- Links can be followed recursively. Use the Recursion settings panel to configure recursion.
- Each link is checked at most once.
- New Local Configuration settings panel.
- New timeout setting allows defining (roughly) how long it is acceptable to wait on a link.
- Case sensitive checking is now an option for local links.
- Display Failures Only is a preferences item and its value is saved across sessions.
- Display Failures Only discards successes (rather than hide them) to save memory.
- Creates multi-part reports when necessary.
- Windows display the full URL of the source document instead of its name.
- The program should be more responsive while working.
- Should work faster and better under MacTCP (new domain name lookup code).
- New Frontier interface.
- Fixed a conceptual bug: mappings are no longer applied to base URLs. Things should now work more consistently
when using mappings, especially when you have absolute local links (starting with a /). See
Tips on the proper use of mappings for more information.
- Supports SmartScroll's proportional scroll bars.
- The keyCallerPSN parameter to the Check Links event is now optional.
- Fixed a bug with URL resolution when the URL contains ../..
- The settings dialog allows saving the settings to a text file, so you can easily show me your settings
when reporting a bug.
- Windows now use the application font rather than Geneva - this should be better for Japanese users.
- Big Brother now includes a Host: field in its requests for better compliance with the HTTP/1.1
protocol.
Contacting me
If you want to talk to me, suggest enhancements or complain about bugs, feel free to send me some email. You can do so even if you are not a registered user: I don't expect people to register before I fix the problems with my software!
My email address is pottier@kagi.com. It is a mirror which should remain valid even if my actual address changes. The latter is currently Francois.Pottier@inria.fr.
More about me
You can find out more about me by visiting my home page. Among other things, it carries my other Macintosh programs:
- Décor
- An extension/application combination to display a background picture on your Mac. Packed with
features, yet easy to use.
- Disk Wizard
- An automatic disk cataloger. Working with removable media (floppies, CDs, SyQuests, Zips...) becomes easier than ever.
- Edit JFIF Comment
- A quick & clean tool to modify comments inside JPEG files. Scriptable, and freeware.
Do you like Big Brother?
Big Brother would like to rule the world. You can help him by displaying his logo on your HTML pages, linking it to my home page and adding a short explanatory sentence. For example, look at what I have done at the bottom of the main documentation page. Big Brother's logo comes in tiny, small and huge sizes. The tiny one weighs only 1 kilobyte!
Thanks very much for your support!
